Bobafatt

BobaFatt has been bounty-hunting beats since the early ’90s. His mixes, radio shows and club sets have seen him awarded acclaim and recognition over the years from BBC 1Xtra (as ‘M1X It Up’ Champion 2006 c/o MistaJam), Mixcloud (Online Radio Award for ‘Best Alternative Radio Show’ 2015 & ‘Top 100 Cloudcasts’ 2013) and in Fact (Top 20 “Most Underrated DJs” Readers Poll 2014). In addition to a monthly Friday night show on Soho Radio (as half of Main Squeeze), Bobby has spun several times on BBC 6 Music (for Huey Morgan), following five years on hip hop station, Itch FM, and having regular shows on Balamii, Resonance FM & NTS Radio in the past.

He’s played at legendary venues such as Royal Albert Hall, Ministry Of Sound, Fabric, Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, Koko, The Jazz Cafe & Somerset House, supporting Mos Def, The Pharcyde, DJ Jazzy Jeff, KRS One, Jay Electronica, Hiatus Kaiyote, Ali Shaheed (Tribe Called Quest), M.O.P, The Alchemist, Just Blaze, EPMD & Dead Prez, to name a few.

After spending many years working in record shops, Bobby went to work for Rough Trade, R&S Records and Greco-Roman, and is also a long-time resident for Big Chill and Soundwave & Hospitality Festivals in Croatia. He provided session work for Roots Manuva’s Banana Klan and on DJ Yoda’s debut album, and has done guest mixes for the likes of Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel and Death Waltz Records, which featured in Dazed, The Guardian, Fact & Metro.

He is currently label manager of First Word Records; named ‘Label Of The Year’ at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2019 and home to artists such as Children of Zeus, Kaidi Tatham, Tawiah, Tall Black Guy, Yazmin Lacey, 14KT & Eric Lau.

Born in Croydon and based in Hackney, Bobby has established himself over the years as one of the capital’s most diverse DJs, blending numerous genres and eras & playing everything from big events to free parties. This fortnightly solo show aims to cover a wide spectrum of sounds, encompassing hip hop, beats, soul, r&b, reggae, jazz, house, garage, jungle and whatever else may find itself in the crate. Expect a mix of throwback sounds and upfront newness over the course of the two-hour show, with special guest mixes and features all to come. Tune in and turn it up to the red, your neighbours will love it.
