Rough Trade Books
A publishing venture in the mould of the pioneering record label. Bringing the same original spirit and radical direction to the world of book publishing.
Every first and last Monday of the month from 7am – 9am you can hear a Rough Trade Books show being broadcast on Soho Radio.
Shows include…
STRESS TEST is like an anxiety dream made real, the presenters of this show—Joe Dunthorne, Martha Sprackland, Ella Frears and John Osborne—invite special guest poets to produce new poems under timed conditions and make them read them aloud on the radio. Then they talk about what went wrong. Follow Stress Test and join in on Twitter here.
TEARS FOR FREARS is an instalment of eye watering, heartbreaking, ecstatic, and/or devastating chat, poetry and music. Host and Rough Trade Books author Ella Frears talks to special guests examining those moments—big, small, and unexpected—that move us to tears.
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS is a show by artist Babak Ganjei—expect the usual surrealistic flourishes of comedy genius, incredible guests from the worlds of art, literature and comedy, and a ‘build your breakfast’ quiz where guests will have to earn the items on their virtual plate by answering Babak’s probing quiz questions.
THE SWEETEST TABOO is a new radio hosted by artist Annie Frost Nicholson, which invites guests to tackle our most uncomfortable subjects, from shame, sex, death, wild confessions, secrets and all things in between, in an invitation to share stories and songs that make us human, in the realest ways. As always with Annie Frost Nicholson’s work, the remit is to work towards creating a language to navigate these complexities, by inviting dialogue and collective experience, setting the scene for it all to unfold.
