ROCK ’N’ ROLL WITCH
Attention witches, wyrdos and devotees of the wonderful and strange: Soho Radio’s rock ’n’ roll witch Zoë Howe invites you into her candlelit radio grotto where she conjures up the cool every month. Our crystal ball predicts mystical chat and witchy cultural picks, celestial insights, seasonal folklore and, most importantly, the most magical rock ’n’ roll that can be mustered, because, as Zoë has always maintained: music is magic, and songs are spells.
In addition to radio witchery, Zoë Howe is a former host of Soho Radio’s The Other Woman Show, Gary Crowley’s Punk & New Wave show and was a regular Free Seed contributor. Her recent books include ‘Witchful Thinking: The Wise Woman’s Handbook for Creating A Charmed Life’ (Llewellyn Worldwide) and ‘Scorpio Witch’. Better known by some as a music biographer, her books include respected biographies of Poly Styrene, The Slits, Wilko Johnson, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Stevie Nicks, The Jam and Lee Brilleaux to name a few, and her debut novel Shine On, Marquee Moon was shortlisted for the Virginia Prize. Zoë worked with Poly Styrene’s daughter Celeste Bell and director Paul Sng on the award-winning documentary film Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché.
Zoë has spoken at events everywhere from The British Library to the End Of The Road Festival, and has been a ‘rock ‘n’ roll agony aunt’ for publications such as The Blues Magazine and the charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). She is a visual artist, and musically Zoë has worked with Viv Albertine, Mick Jones, Steve Beresford, Charli XCX, Helen McCookeryBook and many others.
