Profile
Caeba
Caeba a.k.a. Carla Iannace is an emerging London-based deejay, born in Malta, raised in Rome. As a Tonmeister student, she was partially placed at Gearbox Records, as a multidisciplinary helping hand, with an emphasis on the technical aspects of cutting vinyl, mastering and tape transcriptions. Having first come to Soho Radio via the Gearbox Kissaten show, which plays jazz to soul to hip hop, she now cultivates her fixation of music by channeling her infatuation for world music in her own show.
Although the latter genres, along with R&B, nourish the basis of her shows, Carla’s musical tastes extend beyond these, being multifaceted: she never limits herself to playing a narrow breadth of genres or styles, and her selection extends from the slowest of bpms to the highest of energies, spanning across almost the entire spectrum of world music. With a sensitive accent on folkloric themes, her mixes entail a cacophony of organic composition, encompassing everything from the Maghreb or Saharan region to the Caribbean to Southern Asia.
Ever since she started travelling and working around Latin America last year, she targets her focus on genres like Brazilian Samba (mainly Carioca and Baiana), Colombian or Mexican Cumbia, Salsa and much more, highlighting the African diaspora’s influence on Latin music in particular. Yet, ultimately, her main aim is to champion tracks that are produced by female, non-binary and transgender artists, as well as ones coming from a diverse set of cultural backgrounds. Her aim is also to use the program as a platform to uplift undiscovered, underrepresented and young producers.
Over the course of a few months between 2021 and 2023, Carla invited Rory to take over the second half of her slot for a run of shows, as a collaborative mini-series. Despite a long interest in dance music, he will be taking this
opportunity on radio to bring you a selection of non-club tracks every month. Expect ambient, leftfield & dream pop, trap and anything in between…
Lately, Kristina Rhodes, otherwise known as ‘KRiK’, has also taken over half of the show on a more regular basis; she is a multi-disciplinary creative and DJ based in London; working as a bass session musician, cellist, sound engineer, costume designer & prop maker. KRiK has recently returned to London after a summer of touring with artists including Viji & Hannah Grae.
KRiK takes inspiration from her mixed Ethiopian heritage and Western upbringing, blending all-embracing rhythms with contemporary energetic bass-driven music. Working alongside Caeba at Gearbox Records, she nourished her love for vinyl, jazz and soul, and aims to incorporate this throughout her radio shows with Caeba.
