Scene/Sounds (15/05/2023)
SCENE/SOUNDS is back to focus on the music of the big and small screens – from scores to sound design, from Library music to Foley artists, from theme tunes to adverts.
This month I’m joined by Sandra Kerr to talk in detail about the creation of all the memorable music to the iconic British Childrens television program Bagpuss.
We chat about her beginnings in the UK Folk music scene from moving in with Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger as a nanny to joining them on recordings and research as The Critics Group.
We discuss how Michael Rosen connected the dots to put Sandra and her writing partner John Faulkner in touch with Oliver Postgate and the start of the Bagpuss journey.
Sandra tells us about how the songs were created and the freedom to write then was given – with some dating back to the 10th century.
We also look into her continued career as a musician, lecturer and activist too.
