Composers on Film with Gemma Dempsey feat. Adrian Leung (08/06/2024)
Australian/Hong Kong composer Adrian Leung’s talent has seen him perform at Sydney Opera House & the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing. Now based in the UK, Adrian seeks out work that explores identity, culture and underrepresented voices. For the film ‘Happy Palace’ he drew inspiration from Chinese music – Cantopop, Beijing opera, traditional drumming, the ancient style of storytelling rapping called kuaiban – but then flipped and transformed it into something new and original. For ‘Hong Kong: City on Fire’ was a subtle and effective score to gritty and fascinating documentary from the students perspective of the state repression and their 5 demands. Adrian also talks about his solo project ‘Drexler’.
