Composers on Film feat. Neil Brand (23/12/2023)
Neil Brand is one of the finest silent film composers and accompanists around, as well as an accomplished author, dramatist, presenter (‘Sounds of Cinema’) is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Add to Playlist’ and basically any show that wants an expert to talk about film scores! Neil and I met way back in the early 1990’s at the silent film festival in Pordenone, so I was delighted to have him on Composers on Film to talk about his own work as composer on Hitchcock’s ‘The Lodger’, ‘Underground’ by Anthony Asquith, his current brilliant UK tour of ‘An Evening of Laurel & Hardy’ and ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, scored by Neil starring Mark Gatiss and Sanjeev Bhaskar on BBC 4 Christmas Day evening.
