Bureau of Lost Culture – The Music of the Cult (19/08/2023)
Their number ranges from the darkest bogeymen of countercultural nightmares: Charlie Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh and the Reverend Moon, to saintly figures devoted to the good of others, from outright charlatans, narcissistic psychopaths, deluded prophets to genuine gurus.
Since the 1950s, certain charismatic individuals have taken it upon themselves to collect others around them in what we refer to as ‘cults’. Artist and archivist, MICAH MOSES has spent twenty years, not only studying them but collecting their soundtracks and broadcasting the musical output of cults, new religious movements and individuals of a spiritually inspired nature.
This episode of the Bureau contains a selection of strange, esoteric and sometimes sinister sounds from the vast archive he has gathered over the years. Micah came to the Bureau ahead of his ‘GODBODY’ exhibition around the theme of cults and the New Age which will show in London at The Horse Hospital in September 2023.
