TURMIX UNDERGROUND – Live From New York: Italo Disco Special (16/02/2022)
In the mid-80s, as an 11-12 year old boy growing up in a small town outside of Barcelona, I would spend entire afternoons with a two deck cassette radio that my older brother had recording songs to create my own megamixes. At that time and thanks to Spanish labels like Max Music and Blanco y Negro, and dj’s like Mike Platinas, Fernandisco, Tony Peret, Jose Maria Castells, Quique Tejada among others, popularized the djing culture among those of my generation, and with their megamixes introduced everything that sounded in the European club scene of the moment without forgetting the influence that the Ibizan scene also had. In those years, italo disco hit very hard (not only in Italy and Spain, but also throughout Europe) and all the FM stations dedicated many of their shows to this style and derivatives. I’m talking between the years 1983 and 1987 until the emergence of the Chicago sound and the first steps of house music.
