Scene/Sounds feat. Tamar-Kali (23/08/2022)
Paul Sandell is back with a brand new show SCENE/SOUNDS – following on from his show The Music Library SCENE/SOUNDS continues his focus on the music of the big and small screens – from scores to sound design, from Library music to Foley artists, from theme tunes to library music.
The fantastic composer Tamar-Kali guests on this month’s show to talk all through her career – we discuss how church music and punk music combined to give her a very unique voice in composing for screen.
How the Afro-Punk scene in NY flourished and and expanded and how connections to that gave her a connection with Dee Rees’ debut feature Pariah. That led to working on the multi award winning Mudbound and Tamar’s score adds to the gloomy and dark atmosphere immeasurably.
Tamar-Kali has worked with some amazing directors with real messages in their movies – like The Assistant and how the #metoo movement can be viewed via the Music industry.
