Scene/Sounds feat. Karl Sölve Steven (02/12/2024)
SCENE/SOUNDS is back to focus on the music of the big and small screens – from scores to sound design, from Library music to Foley artists, from theme tunes to adverts.
This month we’ve got another fantastic guest. Karl Sölve Steven joins to talk about his career from early days of building his own instruments as a child in New Zealand to convincing friends to take up instruments in order to form a band.
He formed Supergroove which went on to tour the world before he took a break and planned to forge ahead in music for film and TV.
We talk in depth about the new documentary Never Look Away about the wartime camerawoman Margaret Moth and how he created the sonic world to tell that story.
There’s music from Colin Stetson’s score to the documentary Martha, music from Andrea Arnold’s new film Bird as well as a piece from the new musical Emilia Perez. We also hear music from Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II with the score by Harry Gregson Williams AND we have new music from Lisa Gerrard.
