SCENE/SOUNDS is back to focus on the music of the big and small screens – from scores to sound design, from Library music to Foley artists, from theme tunes to adverts. This month I’m joined by Chuck Johnson to talk about his soundtrack to the new HBO documentary series Burden of Proof.
We talk in detail about how the series was developed over 7 years and how he started making music to fill as much of the footage as possible. Chuck discusses how working with the Director Cynthia Hill over a number of projects has developed over time and a mutual trust allows them to create something very unique.
We talk through Chuck’s career from beginnings in soaking up as much of the local appalachian folk music from people like John Fahey and Elizabeth Cotten to then studying electronic improvisational techniques from Maggi Payne and Pauline Olivieros.
