Scene/Sounds (13/05/2024)
SCENE/SOUNDS is back to focus on the music of the big and small screens – from scores, sound design and Library music, to Foley artists, theme tunes and adverts.
Adam Janota Bzowski joins us this month to talk about his fantastic scores to films like Saint Maud (a Mark Kermode favourite of 2019) a fantastically creepy and distinct horror with an atmospheric and claustrophobic score. Adam talks about the creation of the score from avoiding cliches to being inspired by Colin Stetson.
We discuss his score to the film Here Before and how the context of it being made and released during the covid pandemic provides additional unexpected narrative elements.
Adam tells us about his work on Femme (available on Netflix) and how to create a nocturnal, urban atmosphere that’s reflective of the setting of drag and LGBTQ+ spaces.
We also look into the research that went into the world building score for the Palaeolithic Stone Age Horror/Thriller Out Of Darkness.
