Rock n Roll Witch (21/03/2022)
Attention witches, wyrdos and devotees of the wonderful and strange: Soho’s rock ’n’ roll witch Zoë Howe invites you into her candlelit radio grotto where she conjures up the cool every month. Our crystal ball predicts mystical chat and witchy cultural picks, celestial insights, folklore and, most importantly, the most magical rock ’n’ roll that can be mustered. (This show takes over from Zoë’s nocturnal Soho show The Witching Hour.)
In addition to general radio witchery, Zoë Howe is a former host of The Other Woman Show, Gary Crowley’s Punk & New Wave show and regular Free Seed contributor. Best known as a rock biographer, her books include respected biographies of Poly Styrene, The Slits, Wilko Johnson, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Stevie Nicks, Lee Brilleaux and Florence + The Machine to name a few, and her debut novel Shine On, Marquee Moon was shortlisted for the Virginia Prize. Zoë is working with Poly Styrene’s daughter Celeste Bell on the documentary film Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché (release date TBC). Her next book, Witchful Thinking, is released in 2021 by Llewellyn Worldwide.
Zoë has spoken at events everywhere from The British Library to the End Of The Road Festival, and has been a ‘rock ‘n’ roll agony aunt’ for publications such as The Blues Magazine and the charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). Musically, Zoë has worked with Viv Albertine, Mick Jones, Steve Beresford, Charli XCX, Helen McCookeryBook and many others.
