MOVING SOUNDS – An interview with Roger Robinson (05/09/2021)
This month on Moving Sounds I am joined by Roger Robinson. Roger is a musician, writer and educator and recently won the esteemed TS Elliot prize for his book A Portable Paradise. He was chosen by Decibel as one of 50 writers who have influenced the black-British writing canon. I first got to know Roger via his King Midas Sound project with The Bug, and in particular the Edition 1 album with Fennesz and Kiki Hitomi. We had a long chat about his life from his early days in Trinidad to now in England, his current musical project with the Blak Space Quartet and the two songs he has on, on the latest Bug album “Fire”. Roger chose songs that have signposted his life including Joni Mitchell, Curtis Mayfield and Shuggie Otis.
