Composers On Film with Gemma Dempsey (13/04/2024)

Composer Julie Cooper has scored multiple cinematic orchestral and chamber albums for TV Drama, wildlife and natural history documentaries, along with numerous drama commissions for theatre, BBC Radio Drama and the Concert platform. In her work as a production music composer, Julie’s tracks are synced to a wide variety of visuals, often very different to the original brief they were written for. We’ll hear about her composing process as well the evolution of her stunning albums, ‘Oculus’ and ‘Continuum’ – the latter features incredibly emotive lyrics voiced her long term friend, Adjoa Andoh. We’ll also hear some of her favourite tracks including two by composers Hannah Peel and Hildur Guðnadóttir which leads us to discuss the importance of gender equality in the music industry, something very close and important to Julie’s heart – and mine!
