Bureau of Lost Culture: The GLF and Queer Counterculture
1967 may have been the Summer of Love but it was also a landmark countercultural year for gay rights in the UK with the passing of the Sexual Offences act decriminalising homosexuality (well if you were over 21).But that was only one step on the way. PHILIP RESCORLA OBE comes to the Bureau to talk about what it was like to arrive as a young gay man in the middle of countercultural London, his time with the Gay Liberation Font in the early 70s and life as an activist since. We are joined by ROSIE WILBY comedian, writer and broadcaster, to talk about Queer Counterculture in later decades – has it been absorbed by the mainstream or indeed is still needed given the gains of recent years? And we hear from The Pink Singers, the oldest established LGBT chorus in Europe.
