A Record of Living Beings: Tāo Guāng with Clive Bell & Andy Channing (21/01/2023)
Raimund Wong presents a new A Record of Living Beings sub-series 韜光/Tāo Guāng, focussing on Traditional (South-Eastern) Asian music and their continuing relationships with performers and producers in the avant-garde. For the inaugural episode he is joined by Andy Channing, veteran teacher & performer of Balinese and Javanese Gamelan in London and throughout Europe; and Clive Bell, writer at The Wire, renowned improviser and expert on the Shakuhachi amongst other asian woodwind instruments. A 2hr mix of commanding solo and intimate pieces, full-throttle deep dives with the gamelan, beautiful & haunting archival records of sung and played melodies, and connecting them aurally with related material from the avant-garde and beyond.
